About Katies

Over a decade ago, after relocating from South Africa to Zambia and settling in the small mining town of Ndola, we faced challenges in finding items such as cosmetics, coffee and wine. In response to our own needs, I started importing these products and realised that many others in Zambia shared the same struggle. This led to the birth of Keylayne Trading in 2009.

Keylayne Trading, known as KTS, initially started on a coffee table in a corner of my office. As we gradually expanded the product range and customer base, KTS moved into a small office at the back of our truck repair workshop. After a year of successful trading and increasing demand, we took a bold step by securing a small shop at Jacaranda Mall, Ndola’s first shopping mall. With its popularity soaring and product variety growing, Katies eventually expanded into the neighbouring shop, when it became vacant. This created a larger, better-equipped store that offered a wider range of products not readily found elsewhere in Zambia.

Shopping malls then became popular in Zambia and were built all over Ndola. Jacaranda Mall, being in an industrial area, became less popular than the new malls in town and in the suburbs. We the decided to move the store to a large shop at Rekays Mall, in Ndola Town Centre, in 2016. There we continued introducing new and unusual products, and the store had customers from all over Zambia calling.

The next growing trend in Zambia was to operate your business from a residential house, so we decided to “move with the times” and secured a house in Northrise in Ndola. Once renovations were completed, we moved the shop to Kabelenga Road in Northrise, Ndola in September 2020 and rebranded it to Katies Zambia, trading as Katies International.

Since moving to Northrise, Katies International has expanded its product range even further. Katies now also boasts an on-site hair dressing salon, a resident florist and a plant nursery, in addition to our awesome team – the Katies Tribe - waiting to be of service to you.
